Jesus: A Panorama of our Justification
"Now I make known to you brothers the
good tidings [Gospel] which I preached to you, which also you received,
in which also you stand, through which also you are saved, if you hold
fast to that word I preached to you, except unless you believed in vain.
For I delivered to you what I also received: That Christ died on behalf
of our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that
He has been raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and
that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. Afterward He was seen by
more than 500 brothers at one time, of the whom the majority remain until
now...."
(Paul of Tarsus, ca. 55 CE; I Cor. 15: 1-6).

"One like a Son of man came with the
clouds of heaven came before the Ancient of days and they brought Him near
before Him" (Dan. 7:).
"Think like this among you – what [was]
in Christ Jesus
Who existing in the form of God
Did not deem it robbery to be equal
with God,
but emptied Himself:
Taking the form of a slave,
in the likeness of men becoming,
and being found in fashion as a man,
He humbled Himself and became obedient
until death,
and [even] the death of a cross.
Therefore also God has highly exalted
Him
And has given to Him the name above
every name,
In order that in the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
Of [beings] heavenly and earthly and
under the earth,
And every tongue should confess
That Jesus the Christ [is] Lord to
[the] glory of God [the] Father"
(Possibly an early Christian
song
quoted by Paul of Tarsus,
ca. 54 or 61-62 CE in
Philippians
2: 5-11).
-
"A statement of the LORD [YAHWEH]
to my Lord ['adoni], 'Sit at My right hand till I set your enemies
a stool for your feet. The staff of your strength shall the LORD send out
of Zion: Rule in the midst of your enemies...'" (A psalm
of David, ca. 1010-970 BCE, Ps. 110 = OT passage most cited in the
NT).
-
"I was looking until thrones were set up
and the Ancient of Days sat....The court sat and the books were opened....I
was watching in the visions of the night: And look! with the clouds of
the heavens [One] like the Son of man was coming, and to the Ancient of
Days He came. And they brought Him near before Him. And to Him was given
dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all...should serve Him...a dominion
everlasting" (Daniel, ca. 553 BCE; ch. 7: 13-14; cf. Lev.
16).
-
"Now is [the] judgment upon this world;
now the ruler of this world shall be thrown outside: and I if I am lifted
up out of the earth I will draw all to myself" (Jesus, just
before His crucifixion, ca. 30 CE, attributed in John 12: 31-32;
ca. 90s CE; cf. Lev. 16: 17-22, 26-30).
-
"And that One coming will reprove the world
concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment....concerning
judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged" (Jesus
concerning the Comforter, ca. 30 CE; attributed in John 17: 8, 11;
ca. 90s CE; cf. Lev. 16: 17-22, 26-30).
-
"And she gave birth to a Man-child, who
is about to shepherd all nations with an iron staff, and her Child was
caught up to God and to His throne....and there occurred war in heaven
– Michael and His angels warred with the dragon...and his angels ...[who]
prevailed not – no place was even found for them any longer in heaven.
And the great dragon, the old serpent, the devil and Satan...was cast [out]
to the earth.... And I heard a great voice in heaven saying, 'Now salvation
has become and the power and the kingdom of our God and of His Christ,
because the accuser of our brothers was cast [out], the [one] accusing
them before our God day and night'" (John at Patmos, ca.
90s CE, Revelation 12: 5-10; cf. Lev. 16: 17-22, 26-30).
-
"...all things are naked and having been
laid open to the eyes of Him with Whom is our account. Therefore having
a great High Priest, having passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of
God, let us hold fast the confession" (author?, before 68
or after 80 CE?, Hebrews 4: 13-14; cf. Lev. 16).
-
"For not into the Holies [ta agia]
made with hands did Christ enter, which are antitypes of the true, but
into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf"
(author?,
before 68 or after 80 CE?, Hebrews 9: 24; cf. Lev. 16).
-
"Now a summary of all the things being
said: We have such a High Priest, who sat at [the] right hand of the throne
of the Majesty in the heaven" (author?, before 68 or after
80 CE?, Hebrews 8: 1; cf. Lev. 16).
-
"Who will bring a charge [against] God's
chosen? God [is] the One justifying! Who is the [one] condemning? Christ
Jesus [is] the [One] having died, but rather having been raised, who is
at [the] right [hand] of God, who also intercedes on our behalf?"
(Paul
of Tarsus, ca. 55-56 CE; Romans 8: 33-34; cf.
Lev. 16).
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel
of Christ, for it is [the] power of God to salvation to everyone believing,
both to Jew first and to Greek. For a righteousness of God is revealed
in it from faith to faith, even as it has been written, 'But the [one]
just by faith shall live' ['O de dikaios ek pistews zysetai]" (Paul
of Tarsus, ca. 55-56 CE, citing Hab. 2: 4; Romans 1: 16-17).
"...whatever the Law says it speaks
to the [ones] under the law, in order that every mouth may be stopped and
all the world may become under judgment to God; because by works of law
no flesh will be justified before Him; for through law [is] full knowledge
of sin.
But now apart from law a righteousness
of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the prophets,
a righteousness of God through faith in Christ, to all the [ones] believing....For
we reckon a man to be justified by faith without works of law" (Paul
of Tarsus, ca. 55-56 CE; Romans 3: 20-21; cf. Lev. 16).

"For if by the offense of the one death
reigned through the one, much more the [ones] receiving the abundance of
the grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life through
the One Jesus Christ. Therefore....by the obedience of One many shall be
constituted just" (Paul of Tarsus, ca. 55-56 CE; Romans
5: 19).
"And I saw another angel flying in
mid-heaven, having an everlasting Gospel to preach over the [ones] sitting
on the earth and over every nation and tribe and tongue and people, saying
with a great voice, 'Fear ye God and give glory to Him, because the hour
of His judgment came, and worship the [One] having made the heaven and
the earth and sea and fountains of waters'" (John at Patmos,
ca. 90s CE, Rev. 14: 6-7; cf. Lev. 16).
