With the Apostle Paul, Christians are "resolved to know nothing...except Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (I Corinthians 2:2) and "never to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 5:14). The Gospel by which we are saved is of first importance - that "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures..." (I Corinthians 15: 2-3). The Gospel is identified with "justification by faith" (see Romans 1:16-17; 3:21-28, Galatians 2:14-16) as the way salvation takes place. We have been "justified by His blood" and "reconciled to Him [God] through the death of His Son" (Romans 5:9-10).

The following are corollaries of the Gospel:

1.     The person and work of Jesus Christ are vital elements of the Gospel.

2.     Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God.

3.     Jesus' death was vicarious and substitutionary. By it we are reconciled to God.

4.     The life Jesus lived was sinless. The life of Jesus is substitutionary and exemplary.

5.     In His resurrection, Jesus applies the benefits of the completed atonement. He offers us forgiveness and acceptance through faith in Him, and He bestows upon each person the Holy Spirit who lavishly gives fruit and gifts for our happiness and success in life.

6.     That the Trinity work together for the salvation of humanity. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each have a distinctive role to play in the economy of salvation.

7.     That salvation is exclusively through Jesus Christ.

8.     That all who are saved, whether or not they have personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, will be saved through Him and Him alone.

9.     That sin, condemnation, and death are universal. God's wrath is manifested in the present as God gives people up to their evil intent; His wrath will finally be manifested in the final judgment upon those who reject the provision of the Gospel.

10.    That justification is through faith in Jesus Christ and in His atoning work. Jesus lived and died for all, and all who receive Him and do not reject Him are the beneficiaries of His saving work.

11.    That justification is by faith without the works of the law.

12.    That the Law fulfills the function of providing humans a moral basis of knowing right and wrong. All are accountable by it to the Creator.

13.    That the Law fulfills the function of convicting individuals of their sinfulness, driving them to acknowledge the need of a Savior.

14.    That under the New Covenant, the Moral Law is written on the hearts and minds of believers.

15.    That while genuine Christians are committed to obeying God's commandments, have the Law written on their hearts, they never obey the requirements well enough to merit justification even with the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Their best works still require the covering of Christ's flawless righteousness.

16.    That because Jesus' atoning work (His doing and dying in our behalf and in our stead) was complete and perfect, those who trust in Him may have the assurance of salvation.

17.    That the substitutionary life and death of Jesus Christ are the mainspring of a progressive life of sanctification.

18.    That the Holy Scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation which is in Jesus Christ our Lord.

19.    That the Moral Law is contained in the 10 Commandments of the Mosaic Covenant.

20.    That the Moral Law is relational in the sense that it defines God's will for our relationship with Him and for our relationship with other people. The principle of love for God and mankind undergirds this Law.

21.    Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law both as our Substitute and Example. His life is the fullest expression of God's will.

22.    The church is composed of those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The invisible church exists irrespective of denominations. Various congregations of believers and their wider organizations (denominations) are the matrix through which worship, nurture, evangelism, etc. occur.

23.    The conflict between those loyal to Christ and those who oppose and reject Him will continue up until the Lord's second coming. The two extreme heresies are antinomianism / license and legalism / perfectionism.

24.    In connection with Jesus Christ's return, the dead in Christ will be resurrected and the living Christians translated, immortality being bestowed upon believers at that time.

25.    Ultimately, those who receive Jesus Christ will inherit the earth and live eternally with God and with each other enjoying the fruit of God's blessing. By the same token, those rejecting Jesus Christ will reap the wages of their sin which is eternal death.
